Creative Ability (25%)
- Is the problem original, or does the approach to the problem show originality
- Does the construction or design of equipment show originality
- Have materials/equipment been used in an ingenious way
- Does the interpretation of data show effectiveness and/or creativity

Presentation (25%)
- Important phases of the project presented in a neat, logical and scientific manner
- Student expressed themselves effectively
- Presentation was enthusiastic and comprehensive with effective use of visual aids
- Project display done by the student

Effort (25%)
- Objective/hypothesis clearly stated; Effective plan proposed
- Project shows understanding of existing knowledge
- Experimental design demonstrates understanding of scientific method
- Adequate data were obtained to verify conclusions
- Journal or notebook kept and how complete is it
- Variables were clearly defined and recognized, controls used
- Some idea of further research indicated

Understanding (25%)
- Project represents the student's own skills
- Questions answered effectively and accurately
- Procedure presented that was well planned and carried out
- Experimental variables clearly recognized and defined
- Adequate data to support the conclusions
- Conclusions consistent with the data
- Student understand how the project ties in with related research

Each judge will conduct a 3-5 minute interview with the student and will use the above criteria in assessing the project.  Some judges prefer to ask questions while other prefer allowing the student to make a presentation.  You should prepare for both.
